Abbeymead Rovers Gladiators v Frampton Youth United
Mid-Glos Mini Soccer - Central League
Saturday 5th January 2008
After the away match against Frampton Youth United was postponed due to weather, etc from 8th December 2007 (new fixture still TBA), it was good to meet one of the strongest teams in this league for the first time. The sun came out for the first game after the break and we were soon to find out who ate the most over Christmas! Despite the lack of training sessions and two of their regular team members, the players held their positions well and showed that they had remembered the passing skills that had led to victory in the last few matches.
True to form the match went from end to end with the first goal by Aiden Bonehill from a good pass from the left by Ben Vallender. As half time approached Frampton replied with an equally good goal only to be beaten again by the Bonehill/Vallender duo with Ben crossing this time from the right. 2-1 at half time.
The game continued from end to end with Frampton's strength being their principle striker and their tall defenders. In the confusion of legs from a throw-in by Frampton, the ball managed to pass the entire Gladiator defense to give Frampton the equaliser. The Gladiators rallied but several well struck shots stayed off target. Frampton scored a good goal shortly before time to take the match to the final score of 2-3. (So who did eat the most over Christmas?)
Players of the match: Abbeymead Rovers Gladiators - Ben Vallender; Frampton Youth United - Sam Tose
