Ashelworth Woodpeckers 0 Abbeymead Rovers Hawks 4

Mid Glos Mini-Soccer League
Under 9 North League

Saturday 12th November 2005

On a pitch which made good passing football difficult, both teams served up an entertaining match. Woodpeckers have a mean defence, losing by the odd goal, to two other top teams in the league. Missing one regular defender, they again put up a strong defence but could not contain a rampant Abbeymead side. Abbeymead attacked from the start and the majority of the game was played in Woodpeckers half. Top scorer, Clayton Dee hit the bar before gliding a superb header in from a Jamal Lawrence cross. Lawrence then doubled the score when his cross was deflected in. Brodie Goddard-Jones was pivotal in midfield creating many chances. Woodpeckers were dangerous on the break but Elliot Obee, Josh Cannon and Elliot Basford defended superbly.

The second half produced more of the same - Clayton Dee hit a post as did Ben Langworthy, Lawrence and Dee had shots which went over the bar. Joe Wilton created more chances for Dee. A quick Langworthy corner was crossed by Goddard-Jones for Dee to tap in and Lawrence got the fourth with a shot through the keepers legs. George Hall kept another clean sheet but again had to make a superb save in the last few minutes as Abbeymead relaxed. Harry Benfield had a strong game in defence for the Woodpeckers as did Conner Parslo who also went in goal and made a superb save from Dee.

Gotherington Juniors 0 Abbeymead Falcons 0

Cheltenham Youth League
Saturday, 12th November 2005

What a fantastic match - no not England v Argentina - we're talking about Abbeymead Falcons v Gotherington Juniors.

The game was very entertaining and played in an excellent spirit. The first half was end to end with both teams creating several opportunities - probably the best chance falling to Abbeymead Falcons when Adam Reade collected the ball just outside the area on the left hand side and fired in an excellent shot which hit the bar and then the post before being cleared by Gotherington.

The second half continued to produce some excellent football from both teams as each created further opportunities from good passing and build-up play. As the second half progressed Abbeymead were unlucky as two shots were cleared from the line. However, towards the end of the half Gotherington applied more and more pressure and Abbeymead were forced to defend deeper and deeper. As a result the Abbeymead goalkeeper, Matthew Sutton, had to make several crucial saves.

An excellent match with both teams agreeing that a draw was a fair result. Well done to both teams.
