F.C. Lakers 0 Abbeymead Rovers Hawks 8
Mid Glos Mini-Soccer League
The Gary Lee Shield
Saturday 2nd October
Abbeymead progressed to the last eight of the cup after a comfortable victory against a hard working F.C. Lakers. Abbeymead started slowly - Jamal Lawrence hit a post as did Joe Wilton before Clayton Dee broke the deadlock with a clever finish from a tight angle following a quick throw from Ben Langworthy. Elliot Obee's tackle and pass found Wilton, whose cross was met by Dee for number two. Just before half time, Dee picked up a weak kick from the keeper and powerfully completed his hat-trick. The best team goal of the game followed shortly - Josh Cannon winning the ball in defence and releasing Wilton who crossed for Langworthy to score.
In the second half Abbeymead played some lovely football. Langworthy set up Lawrence for number five. Lawrence was a constant threat with his strong running and he set up Wilton for number six. Obee was influential in midfield setting up Dee for his fourth after some good close control and Wilton rounded off the scoring after some good work from Langworthy and Lawrence. Josh Cannon and Tom Claxton were solid in defence. As Abbeymead relaxed Lakers became a threat on the break and George Hall in goal, had to make an excellent save to keep another clean sheet.
