Abbeymead Rovers 'A' 10 Abbeymead Rovers 'B' 1
Gloucester Youth League
Sunday 9th December 2007
This was the first time these two sides had met since pre-season training. It was a very competitive match in difficult conditions. The B's started well and had a few attacks which lacked the finishing shot. The A's took the lead when a corner was half cleared and Adam Reade fired home from the edge of the area. A strong run and cross from Jack Ashmead set up Dan Lutman for the second. Alex Vye scored the goal of the game - Elliot Basford started the move on the edge of his area, passing to Jack Boyce, who in turn fed Jack Ashmead who crossed for Vye to score. Lutman got his second latching onto a good through ball from Elliot Obee and Clayton Dee, who come on late in the first half hammered the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle to get the fifth.
In the second half the strength and power of Dee was a constant threat. B's keeper Luke McGovern made several excellent saves from Dee and Joe Wilton before Dee latched onto a Max Harper-Emerson through ball for the sixth. Ben Langworthy set up Dee for the seventh with an excellent header and then Dee again got the eighth following an excellent cross from Vye. Great cheers celebrated the B's Matthew Christmas as he ran clear and calmly slotted the ball past Matthew Sutton. The B's then attacked with renewed confidence and Sutton was forced into a good save and Sam Ashmead, Elliot Obee, Elliot Basford and Jack Boyce had to defend strongly. Dee steadied the ship with his fifth and with the last kick of the game Lutman completed his hat-trick with a shot from the edge of the area.
