Abbeymead Rovers 'A' 10 Quedgeley Wanderers 3

Gloucester Youth League - League Cup
Sunday 28th October

Abbeymead started very strongly and should have scored five goals in the first five minutes - only poor finishing let Quedgeley off the hook and they did start to get into the match. However, an Alex Vye free kick was headed home by Ben Langworthy to open the scoring and another Vye cross was headed home by Josh Cannon to make it two-nil. The Quedgeley keeper made a superb save from Clayton Dee before Dee coolly finished when one on one to make it three. Abbeymead?s defence of Jack Boyce, Elliot Basford, Sam Benzie, Max Harper-Emerson, Oli Pritchett and Sam Ashmead had been very secure and had provided Matthew Sutton in goal excellent protection. The defence set up many chances for the pacey front men with some excellent through balls. However, one sleepy moment and the skilful Quedgeley left winger was through to score just before half time.

Early in the second half, Langworthy set up Dee for the fourth and Jack Ashmead set up Langworthy for the fifth and then strong individual play enabled Langworthy to complete his first competitive hat-trick. Abbeymead made several changes to rotate all their players and this disrupted their shape and allowed Quedgeley back into the game as they scored two quick goals. However, Abbeymead soon regained their composure - Dee set up Dan Lutman for number seven, Dee then completed his hat trick with a fine individual goal. Lutman scored his second with a clever volley from a Elliot Obee cross and Clayton Dee latched onto a Harper-Emerson through ball to complete the scoring.
