Abbeymead Rovers 'A' 4 F.C. Lakers 2

Gloucester Youth League
Sunday 23rd September 2007

Abbeymead dominated from the start against feisty opposition - two Abbeymead players were had to be substituted in the first ten minutes. Abbeymead took the lead when a Clayton Dee clearance fell to Alex Vye who outpaced the defence and finished with a fine cross-shot. Vye scored his second with a fine shot following a Dan Lutman corner. From an Adam Reade corner the Lakers keeper made a fine save from a Sam Benzie shot. The third came when Ollie Pritchett stopped an attack and fed Elliott Obee who put Dan Lutman through to neatly lob the keeper. Keeper Matthew Sutton did not have a save to make with the defence, expertly marshalled by Elliott Basford being very solid.

Lakers defended better in the second half. Clayton Dee forced a good save from the keeper before picking up a pass from Jack Ashmead and firing home the fourth. Ben Langworthy had a goal-bound header blocked and Joe Wilton went close with a shot. Abbeymead got a little carried away and the defence of Sam Ashmead, Jack Boyce, Sam Benzie and Elliott Basford which had been solid all game, suddenly were put under pressure. Lakers scored with a fine header from a corner and from the kick off Abbeymead players just melted away and let the Lakers striker run through - Matthew Sutton made a fine save only for Lakers to react first and put in the rebound from the last kick of the game.
