Hucclecote 1 - 4 Abbeymead Rovers

U11 s League

Sunday 5th December

A series of missed opportunities by Abbeymead Rovers kept the scores even in the first half. Solid defending by the back four of Adam Thrall, Brian Goodman, Barnaby George and Adam Crabbe smothered out the Hucclecote attack. Goalkeeper Jacob Ellmore had only the occasionally goal kick to deal with.

With the tenacious Tom Rich on the right and the dynamic Gareth Davies on the left, Abbeymead were threatening to over run Hucclecote on the wings. Hadley Gilbert and Matt Ball had their work cut out in midfield. Up front Joshua Harris and Kieran Smith tried hard but just could not find away through the Hucclecote defence.

The Hucclecote goalkeeper managed to save well from Gareth Davies and from the resulting corner Joshua Harris was unlucky to see his flick on go just wide. Abbeymead pressed to try and get the opening goal. However good saves from the Hucclecote and with some poor finishing from Abbeymead meant that the first half ended all square.

A bold tactical switch at half time by the Abbeymead coaches saw Abbeymead change to just three at the back. Nate Crosby came on to form a back three with Barnaby George and Adam Thrall. Liam Phelps now joined a midfield of five.
The positive move saw Abbeymead launch a series of attacks trying to break the dead lock.

One goal mouth scramble summed up Abbeymeads frustration. With some desperate defending and a little luck Hucclecote were able to clear the ball off the line not once but three times in a goal line melee.

Abbeymead were stunned when Hucclecote, on the first real chance, broke away and stole the lead. Jacob Ellmore was unfortunate not to keep out a shot that rebounded of the post and just crossed the line before he could stop the ball.
Tiff Eden was introduced on the right for Abbeymead to give some fresh legs to the attack.

Abbeymead were finally rewarded for all their efforts by winning a penalty after Kieran Smith was pushed from behind in the area. Kieran Smith took the penalty himself to bring the scores level. Good work a few minutes later by Joshua Harris led to Gareth Davies scoring at the far post to put Abbeymead in the lead. With confidence now flowing Abbeymead played their best football of the game and Joshua Harris scored to extend Abbeymead?s lead.

The central midfield of Liam Phelps, Hadley Gilbert and Matt Ball now started to dominate the game. It came as no surprise that after some good work by Tiff Eden on the right, Kieran Smith got his second and Abbeymead?s fourth of the game.
