Abbeymead Rovers 'A' 2 Abbeymead Rovers 'B' 0
Gloucester Youth League
Saturday 18th November 2006
The 'A' team won the battle of the Abbeymeads in an excellent game of football. In their previous two matches, the 'A' team suffered two defeats - only the third and fourth competitive defeats they have suffered, losing 5 - 1 to Hardwicke and 4 - 0 to Hucclecote who took revenge for being knocked out of the cup.
The 'B' team started brightly - full of confidence from an excellent victory against Hardwicke the previous week. Jack Ashmead and Alex Vye combined well and set up Adam Reade for an excellent shot which was well saved by George Hall. Lee Harris was put through but shot just wide. At the other end, Brodie Goddard-Jones put Ben Langworthy through and his cross was met by Dan Lutman who shot just wide. This same combination led to the opening goal - Lutman?s cross hit the bar and Langworthy slid in to turn the rebound home.
In the second half, the 'A' team played some better football. On one occasion Goddard-Jones picked the ball up from Hall, fed Joe Wilton who set up Clayton Dee a good chance. Elliott Obee and Josh Cannon had to be sharp in defence to deal with the threat caused by Vye and Jack Boyce who had an excellent header just over the bar. Obee had to make a number of excellent last ditch challenges. A through ball from Langworthy set up Dee to fire home the second goal and minutes later Langworthy had a shot which hit the bar which the 'B' team managed to clear the ball from the ensuing scramble.
Abbeymead 'A' Man of the Match: Jamal Lawrence
Abbeymead Hawks: George Hall, Brodie Goddard-Jones, Joe Wilton, Josh Cannon, Clayton Dee, Elliot Obee, Dan Lutman, Ben Langworthy
